Veranstaltungsrückblick: Sicherheit und Verteidigung der EU: Geteilte Werte Deutschlands und Irlands
Eine Veranstaltung der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung UK & Ireland und European Movement Ireland
In den nächsten zwei Wochen laufen derzeit im Europäischen Parlament die Vorbereitungen zur Ernennung der nächsten Europäischen Kommission, wobei Sicherheits- und Verteidigungsfragen die nächste EU-Mandatsperiode dominieren werden. Fast drei Jahre nach Russlands illegaler Invasion in die Ukraine dauert der Konflikt weiterhin an, der eskalierende Konflikt im Nahen Osten hat diesen Monat sein einjähriges Jubiläum erreicht, und in ganz Europa haben vermehrt hybride und Cyberangriffe stattgefunden. Die Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung und European Movement Ireland veranstalteten die Diskussion „Politische Prioritäten für Irland und Deutschland im neuen EU-Mandat“ und beleuchteten deutsche und irische Perspektiven zu Sicherheits- und Verteidigungsthemen. Noelle O’Connell, Geschäftsführerin von European Movement Ireland, wurde begleitet von Colm Brophy TD, Vorsitzender des Oireachtas-Ausschusses für Angelegenheiten der Europäischen Union, Herrn Christian Resch, Geschäftsträger ad interim der Botschaft der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, Vizeadmiral (a.D.) Mark Mellet DSM, ehemaliger Generalstabschef der irischen Verteidigungskräfte, und Professor John O’Brennan, Jean-Monnet-Professor für europäische Integration an der Maynooth University.
