Roundtable discussion

The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung's Media Programme Sub-Sahara Africa hosted a round-table at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg on journalism education.

On Tuesday, the 19th of March 2024, the Media Programme Sub-Sahara Africa of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, hosted a roundtable discussion on the curriculum perspective of journalism education. The event took place at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and was attended by esteemed journalism academics and professionals from Wits Film and TV, Wits Centre for Journalism, Wits School of Arts, AFDA Film School, University of Johannesburg, Tshwane University of Technology and Fray College.

The event commenced with an opening address by Hendrik Sittig, the Director of the Media Programme.

Following the opening address, Prof. Dr Claudia Nothelle, Professor of Television Journalism at the University of Applied Sciences Magdeburg-Stendal and former Programme Director of Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (ARD/rbb), delivered an insightful presentation on the evolving landscape of journalism education, drawing from her extensive experience in the field. The presentation was followed by a roundtable discussion, where participants engaged in a dynamic exchange of information and ideas aimed at improving journalism academia and fostering collaboration between academic experts. The discussion touched upon various aspects of journalism education curriculum, including emerging trends, challenges, and best practices.

The event provided a valuable platform for academics and professionals to network, share experiences, and explore opportunities for collaboration. It underscored the importance of continually evolving journalism education to meet the demands of a rapidly changing media landscape.
