The crisis and its aftermath have shown that the European Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) is in serious need of reform. The Five President’s Report of June 2015 presented extensive proposals to complete the EMU. Alongside deepening the Single Market in general it proposes numerous institutional amendments and the creation of a Fiscal Union in the long term. The reform options are highly complex and controversial due to the EMU’s unique feature of centralized monetary policy and national fiscal and economic policies. KAS and BDI therefore initiate a workshop series to discuss these issues and assess options that are economically and politically appropriate to complete the EMU.
