The new wave of regular and irregular migration as a result of economic hardship on the trail of the Covid-19 pandemic and the effect of the on-going Russian-Ukraine on global economy has been putting the Nigeria Immigration Service to task on how best to prevent Nigerians from embarking on dangerous journeys to other countries in search of a brighter tomorrow. This situation is heightened by the current industrial strike by the higher institution lecturers, which has kept the majority of the youths at home. Most of these youths, as studies have shown, have the intention of leaving the country as soon as possible.
In order to strengthen the capacity of the Nigeria Immigration Officers who will act as multipliers in their various state commands and drive the initiative to reduce irregular migration from Nigeria, senior policy experts and consultants will be brought to offer their expert views and recommendations. Amongst topics to be covered are Imperative of Public Engagement: The Nigeria Immigration Service Experience; Promoting Safer Migration: The Role of the Media; Dissecting the Smuggling of Migrants (SoM) and Trafficking in Persons (TiP) Dichotomy; Overlapping Mandates among Security Agencies: Recommendations for Nigeria Immigration Service; Overlapping Mandates among Security Agencies: Recommendations for Nigeria Immigration Service; Public Relations Man and his Environment: Tips on Managing your Boss; Nigeria Immigration Service Public Relations Structure and Strategy: An Overview; and Understanding the Nexus between Law Enforcement and Human Rights Issues among others.
The workshop is part of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s support towards strengthening democracy, good governance and the rule of law in Nigeria.
