Media Dialogue 6:

A Ban on Toxic Farm Chemicals: Thailand’s long road to food safety and the “(safe and clean) Kitchen of the World”

Facebook Live from SEA-Junction |Wednesday, September 30, 2020 | 10:00– 12:30 (BKK Time)

The Thai government decided to ban the use, sale, and import of three farm chemicals this year. This decision, that still needs to be enforced, triggered a lot of debates among the public divided in proponents and opponents of the measure, with both sides enlightening positive and negative consequences for the environment, the public health, the agricultural business, and the economy. The stakes are high, especially for farmers and the agribusiness sector.

The news agency Bangkok Tribune, supported by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, is organizing an online conference to discuss this very controversial issue in Thailand. This is meant to set a common ground for achieving food safety, supply chain security, and environmental goals, while supporting the growth of the agricultural sector.

This conference is the sixth of a series of Media Dialogues on current Thai, regional, and global developments organized by the Bangkok Tribune and the KAS. It will take place on Wednesday, September 30 at 10:00 onward (Bangkok Time) at SEA-Junction, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC). Facebook Live from the venue will start at 10:25 and the conference will be conducted in Thai language.

To participate in the conference, please send an email to Thasuthida.thetthong@kas.de. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the conference either online or at the venue (in accordance with social distancing measures), and how to take part in the Q&A sessions with the panelists.
