Beyond PM2.5

Environmental Justice and Insight Urban Solution for the Next Generation

Every year, air pollution known as PM2.5 occurs in Thailand, particularly in the north. It has caused hardship affecting both socio-economics and public health. Meanwhile, climate change is one of the factors contributing to the deterioration of the situation, such as longer periods of smog season caused by drought. Environmental justice as a component of the solution, viewed through the lens of climate change challenges along with insight into the urban solution and the voice of the citizens, may provide some light on the right to breathe.

This book contains an overview of the situation regarding PM2.5, case studies on climate change and solution for clean air, environmental justice, and insights into the urban environment. It also compiles the voices of the young generation who currently reside in or will reside in PM2.5-effected areas. The network organisations, namely UDE City Lab at the Multidisciplinary Research Institute of Chiang Mai University and  Thai Urban Designer Association Lanna (TUDA-Lanna) with the support of KAS Thailand, seek to nudge through democratic participation of the citizens, which is hoped to be met with appropriate policies and actions, as part of environmental justice and urban dweller awareness.

You can read the book in the digital format here. The book is in Thai language.

If you’re interested in having the printed version, please send your request to Office.Thailand@kas.de or send a direct message to UDE City Lab.
