Philipp Bremer

Leiter des Rechtsstaatsprogramms Naher Osten und Nordafrika

Seit Juli 2021 ist Philipp Bremer Leiter des Rechtsstaatsprogramms Naher Osten und Nordafrika mit Sitz in Beirut, Libanon. Zuvor war er 3 1/2 Jahre als Rechtsanwalt für eine internationale Wirtschaftskanzlei tätig, in dieser Zeit auch sechs Monate als externer Berater vor Ort in der Litigation Communications Abteilung eines internationalen deutschen Automobilherstellers. Er hat Rechtswissenschaften an der Universität Mannheim studiert, sein Rechtsreferendariat absolvierte er u.a. im Europäischen Parlament bei Axel Voss, MdEP in Brüssel und im Büro der Staatsministerin Prof. Maria Böhmer, MdB im Auswärtigen Amt.

Das Völkerrecht, so heißt es, sei „in der Krise“. Doch ist das Völkerrecht tatsächlich so wirkungslos? Bedarf es nicht eher eines angepassten Erwartungsmanagements und eines größeren politischen Willens?

Conference in Rabat, Morocco: Women's Access to Justice

A three-day conference together with ARPA, the National Human Rights Council of Morocco and the Mohamed V University of Rabat - and over 100 participants from over 7 countries.

Coming together at the Mohamed V University in Rabat, Morocco, over 100 participants from over 7 countries came together to discuss "Women's Access To Justice". Organized by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Rule of Law Programme Middle East and North Africa, ARPA, the National Human Rights Council of Morocco and the Mohamed V University, the three day conference saw great working groups, big plenary discussions and the beginning of a strong network - for future work to come!

On December 7th 2021, the Rule of Law Programme Middle East & North Africa of the Konrad-Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) in partnership with SEEDS for Legal Initiatives organized a roundtable titled: “Freedoms & Elections – Towards more Democratic Practices” at the Smallville Hotel in Badaro, Beirut.

Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on the Judiciary

Together with LFPCP, KAS organized a webinar on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the work of courts, judges and the access to justice in several Arab and European countries

On Wednesday, 24th of November 2021, the Rule of Law Programme Middle East & North Africa of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), in cooperation with the Lebanese Foundation for Permanent Civil Peace (LFPCP), organized an online workshop in which 7 position papers from Egypt, Spain, Tunisia, Estonia, Lebanon, Romania and Morocco were presented and discussed to identify the challenges and best practises brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact in these aforementioned countries.

Two Day Conference on the Media's Role in Fighting Corruption and Fostering Civil Peace, Freedom of Expression and Democracy in Lebanon, the Middle East and North Africa

On the 29th and 30th of November 2021, the Media Association for Peace (MAP) in partnership with the Rule of Law Programme Middle East & North Africa of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) and UNIC Beirut, organized and hosted the "Media, Peace and Human Rights Annual Regional Conference 2021" at the Lancaster Hotel Plaza in Beirut, Lebanon.

On the topics of Anti-Corruption, Illicit Enrichment and the Crime of Human Trafficking

On the 2nd and 3d December 2021, the Rule of Law Programme Middle East & North Africa, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), in partnership with the Judicial Studies Institute at the Ministry of Justice in Lebanon, organized a workshop on the Anti-Corruption Law, the Law of Illicit Enrichment and the Crime of Human Trafficking - the Legal Framework, Problems and Solutions. 32 judges in training attended the two-day workshop at the Smallville Hotel in Beirut.

On the 11th and 12th of November 2021, the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Rule of Law Programme Middle East and North Africa, with the help of Mr. Sam Menassa, organized a roundtable entitled: “Constitutionalism as Received and Practiced in a Selection of MENA Countries: Lebanon, Iraq and Tunisia” at the Lancaster Plaza Hotel, Beirut, Lebanon.

A collaboration with the Human Rights Center (HRC-BAU) and the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences at Beirut Arab University

On the 15th November, the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Rule of Law Programme Middle East and North Africa, in partnership with the Human Rights Center (HRC-BAU) and the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences at Beirut Arab University organized a symposium, under the title of “Towards a Rule of Law State: Challenges & Aspirations".
