Noch zu vorchristlicher Zeit wuchs Rom zur dominanten Macht des Mittelmeerraums heran, das die Römer schlicht „mare nostrum“ – „unser Meer“ – nannten. Die Römische Welt hat seither unsere westliche Welt geprägt, wie kaum eine andere Kultur: Sprache, Rechtswesen, Baukunst und Ingenieurwesen setzten über viele Jahrhunderte Maßstäbe. Die Wurzeln des organisierten Christentums liegen mit gutem Grund in der Metropole des Reiches, das Politik und Kultur der damals (uns) bekannten Welt prägte. Dass die Europäische Union mit den Römischen Verträgen ihre vertragliche Konsolidierung ebenfalls in Rom vornahm, ist nur folgerichtig.
In einer gemeinsamen politischen Pilgerreise des Katholischen Stadtdekanats Stuttgart und des Landesbüros Baden-Württemberg der Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung spüren wir auf unserer Pilgerreise nach Rom der Faszination einer Stadt nach, in der sich Christentum und politische Macht immer wieder in besonderer Weise begegnet sind und begegnen.
