Details

The political and economic relations between the European Union and Russia have been seriously affected by the annexation of Crimea and the conflict in Eastern Ukraine. The EU have imposed sanctions against Russia that have been answered by counter measures. So far, not much progress can be reported on the implementation of the Minsk Agreement. Meanwhile, the negotiations for a New EU-Russia Agreement remain suspended and both partners fight out several trade disputes with each other at the WTO in Geneva. However, Russia remains a natural partner for the EU and a strategic player combating the regional and global challenges. On top, the new U.S. President Donald Trump might take a different approach towards Russia. What changes will the Trump administration bring for the EU-Russia relations. Will the EU stay united on the sanctions regime? What should be done to improve the bilateral economic relations today and in the future? Which are the stumbling block on the way towards free trade from Lisbon to Vladivostok?
