The European Union currently finds itself beset by a perfect storm of political events, which is reflected in the unprecedented numbers of people seeking refuge from war, persecution or untenable socio-economic conditions. Its effects are testing the political, institutional and legal make-up of the European Union and put into question the very fabric that holds the European Union together. Combined with fundamental challenges to the security structure within the EU, this situation will continue to demand concerted political action and decisive strategic decision-making.
Building on the panellists' expertise in the areas of security and migration policy, this event seeks to critically examine how the EU and its Member States are responding to the challenges of migration and why a concerted European approach is now required. They will address both the internal and external dimensions of the relevant European policies taking into account the broader international context.
