Details
Training workshop for members of Trade and Business Associations contesting District Level elections
Participants: Members of Civil Society contesting the elections from Wenchi, Techiman and Nkoranza Districts.
Background
From 2006 to 2009, KAS has supported GUTA to undertake various workshops which has contributed to improve the relationship between trade associations and the respective District Assemblies of Techiman, Wenchi, Tain and Nkoranza. In 2010, Ghana goes to the polls to elect and appoint members of the district Assemblies. There was overacharching need to support GUTA to sensitize its members to be much more involved in the electoral process that is campaigning with members and well as lobby for appointment into the Assembly. In respect of these, KAS supported GUTA in the course of the year to organize workshops in Wenchi, Techiman, Kintampo and Atebubu for members of Trade and Business Associations and the general civil society community to ensure that the up coming district levels elections become participatory at two levels
1. offering themselves for the elections as candidates or lobbying to be appointed as candidates for their Assemblies.
2. encouraging others to participate in the process and supporting them.
Objectives
The objective of this workshop is a follow-up to the various sensitization programmes that KAS started with GUTA at the district level in 2010. The resource persons are members of parliament who have won several and but have lost elections in their political careers and are endowed with practical political experiences to share with these prospective Assembly members.
