Recognition of Indigenous Peoples Ancestral Land Rights and the Protection of the Environment

The conference aims to promote the cooperation of the government to gazette the lands of the indigenous people to ensure the sustainability of their livelihoods while protecting their lands from deforestation.

The conference was well-attended with participants from various stakeholders such as Jabatan Kemajuan Orang Asli (JAKOA, Department of Indigenous People Development), Kementerian Kemajuan Luar Bandar dan Wilayah (KKLW, Ministry of Rural and Regional Development), the Malaysian Bar Council and Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) who actively engaged in various dialogues with the indigenous people who came from many parts of Peninsula Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
