After the training series in 2020 and 2021 aimed at strengthening the capacity of the legislators to adequately perform their constitutional mandates which include law making, representation and oversight, capacity building is needed for this new partner House of Assembly as this is the year before the general elections in 2023. The legislators further need to be prepared for the new Electoral Act which will guide the conduct of the elections next year.

This year, themes such as Roles of State Houses of Assembly, before, during and after Elections; Substantive and Noteworthy Provisions of 2022 Electoral Act for Legislators / Candidates; Legislative Reports: Tools for Measuring the Effectiveness and Performance of State Houses of Assembly; Executive Arm vs. Legislature: Managing the Relationship for State Development; Introduction to Social Welfare: Role of the Legislature; Corporate Social Responsibility: How can the State Legislature derive maximum Benefits for the State?; Financial Autonomy of SHA: Matters Arising and Recommendations for Legislative Engagement; and The Electoral Process, Leadership Selection and Democratic Consolidation in Nigeria will form the basis of the training.

The workshop is part of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s support towards sustaining democratic governance and the rule of law in Nigeria.
