Capacity Building Workshop for Clerks and Legislative Aides of State Houses of Assembly

Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) in partnership with the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) is organizing a workshop to build the capacity of the Clerks and legislative aides of Plateau, Cross River, Ogun, Oyo, Lagos, Enugu, Abia, Rivers, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Ondo and Nasarawa States Houses of Assembly.
As part of the numerous recommendations made in the series of workshops conducted for the State Houses of Assembly in 2020, the capacity building for Clerks and legislative aides came out as a major one in attempting to support and promote democratic institutions in Nigeria, and the first capacity building workshop was conducted in Owerri in February 2021, this second stage is a follow-up. Amongst topics to be covered is Historical Trajectory of the Nigerian Civil Service and Role of State Civil Service in Economic Development; Essentials of the Public Procurement Act: Lessons for Principal and Accounting Officers of Houses of Assembly; Legislators’ Expectations of Aides: Divided Loyalty, High Ambition, Self-Enrichment and other Traps to avoid; Bill Scrutiny and Analysis in a Legislature; Data in Strategic Communication and Image Management in the Legislature; Essentials of Accurate Revenue Tracking by State Houses of Assembly; Techniques of Legislative Research and & Strategies of Public Policy Analysis; and Translating Policy into Legislation. The workshop is part of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s support towards sustaining democracy, governance, and Security Sector Reform in Nigeria.
