After the Not-too-Young-too-Run bill was signed into law in 2018, the minimum age for candidates was lowered and many youth who had not been able to contest in elections participated in the 2019with some elected into the federal and state legislatures. Out of the youths in the State Houses of Assembly, some of them later emerged as Speakers of their various Houses. In order to consolidate on the gains of the successful young candidates at the 2019 general elections, it is paramount to bring them together to strategically plan for the 2023 elections, and network with each other across political zones and outside political party enclaves and lines. Amongst topics to be covered is Young Persons and the Burden of Leadership: How prepared are they?; Overcoming the Socio-Political and Economic Barriers faced by Young Persons in Accessing Nigeria’s political Space; The Role of the Parliament in Harnessing the Young Persons’ Effective Political Participation in Nigeria; The Role of the Political Parties in Harnessing the Young Persons’ Effective Political Participation in Nigeria; The Role of the CSOs and Media in Sensitizing the Youth ahead of the 2023 General Elections. The workshop is part of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s support towards sustaining democracy, governance, and Security Sector Reform in Nigeria.
