The Young Democrats Union of Africa (YDUA) held its annual conference from June 30 to July 3, 2024, at the Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala, Uganda. The conference brought together young democrats from across Africa to reflect on democracy and elections on the continent. The conference kicked off with a cocktail party, where participants were welcomed by YDUA President Hon. Kiirya Ismail, KAS-PolDiSSA representative Dr. Holger Dix, and FDC and DP party whips.
The second day of the conference focused on reflections on democracy and elections in Africa. Participants heard keynote addresses from Hon. Louisa Atta-Agyemang (DUA President). Presentations and discussions centred around democracy in individual countries and the role of young people in democracy. With a presentation from Chairman Peter MacManu from NPP Ghana on the center-right ideology as a solution to Africa's democratic challenges. The following day the participants took an excursion to the source of the Nile. The final day of the conference the presentation of youth league reports, the YDUA strategic plan, and allocation of members to committees. Closing remarks were made by Hon. Andile Mthombeni (YDUA Deputy President).
The conference provided a platform for young democrats to engage in constructive dialogue, share experiences, and learn from each other. Participants left with a renewed commitment to promote democracy and good governance in Africa.
