Sustainable Asia – Envisioning your Future

Young people from Asia elaborate projects for their countries' development

The young generation is the key for achieving integrated development in Asia. But they often lack know-how and resources for implementing their brilliant ideas. A webinar provides training and supports selected teams in creating multimedia products.

Details

The webinar is jointly developed and held by KAS RECAP, The Hong Kong-America Center and facilitated by a digital education expert, Dr. Brant Knutzen. Its focus is on energy production and consumption, climate change mitigation and adaption as well as natural resources, urbanisation and infrastructre in Asia-Pacific. The webinar refers to the following four UN Sustainable Development Goals:

  • SDG 7 – Affordable, clean energy
    • SDG 9 – Industry, innovation and infrastructure
    • SDG 11 – Sustainable cities and communities
    • SDG 13 – Climate action

The first stage of the webinar, starting in May, consists of online courses for each of the above SDGs. Participants will meet virtually, listen to experts about current implementation and challenges of these Goals in Asia, and get engaged in discussion. The second stage will kick off in July. This is the creative phase when each group, building on the acquired knowlegde and supported by the webinar team, creates a multimedia product (including video) which introduces the specific project. Depending on the resources needed for production, each team can receive up to US Dollar 500. Upon completion of the products in September, the webinar team will review the results and select several groups who will be invited to participate in a culminating event in November. The groups will meet high-ranking politicians from all Asia at an United Nations forum in Singapore and have the unique opportunity to present their ideas, projects and products.

KAS RECAP is looking for people from Asia and the Pacific islands under the age of 35 years who have innovative, compelling ideas for influencing the local/national policy or implementing sustainability projects in their community or society. Anyone interested in participation may form groups between 3 and 7 persons in size and apply for the webinar. The proposal should include

  • a written introduction and explanation of the project,
    • a production plan,
    • short bios of all team members and
    • contact data.

Proposals must be submitted to proposals@SDGAsia.org not later than 25 April 2018. Groups will be admitted to the webinar before mid May. For further information, please download this brochure and visit the SDG Asia website.

We are looking forward to your team's application!
