As Uganda aspires to achieve the target of a middle-income country by the year 2017, Makerere University Convocation and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung recognise the crucial role SMEs have to play in the country’s economic transformation. However, there still lacks a robust policy framework for supporting the development of SMEs particularly with regard to access to business finance. The public lecture is organised to offer a platform for leading economic experts to evaluate the existing policy environment and suggest choices for improving access to business finance for SMEs in Uganda.
The lecture will be delivered by Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile, Governor of the Uganda Central Bank. Prof. Mutebile is Uganda’s outstanding economist of strong international recognition. As key driver of the country’s fiscal policy he was voted Africa’s Central Bank Governor of the Year 2013 by the Africa Investor Group. The discussion will be enhanced by a panel of economic and political experts including: Prof. Agustus Nuwagaba of Makerere University, Prof. Waswa Balunywa of Makerere University Business School, and Hon. Norbert Mao – President of the Democratic Party.
