Since 1976, the Archive for Christian Democratic Politics (ACDP) has managed, evaluated and made accessible the written and collected material of the Christian Democratic Movement. Archive documents encompassing more than 19 kilometres of shelving are available to everyone in the framework of legal provisions.
The archive material comprises records of the CDU federal party, the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag, the regional divisions and associations, the European associations of Christian Democrats as well as personal papers from the Union’s leading mandate and office-holders throughout Germany and Europe. By taking over the archive and library of the CDU in the Soviet Occupation Zone/German Democratic Republic, the ACDP is also important for research into GDR history.
Info for Users
The inventory overview provides users with over 1,900 archival holdings including information on the scope, content, conditions of use as well as finding aids. Some of the finding aids are made available online as PDF files and with a search function in the "Faust" database covering all holdings, in some cases with links to over 150,000 document pages. Further finding aids as well as a handbook with reference works and the archive publications are available on-site in the reading room and are successively prepared for online presentation.
The online database currently enables full-text searchable files on the executive board of the EPP, the CDU in the SOZ/GDR along with flyers and press releases of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag, among others. Further digital documents such as an edition of the minutes of the CDU Federal Executive Committee, minutes of the CDU federal party conferences, basic programmes, Articles of Association and Information Service of the Union in Germany can be found in the internet portal on the CDU’s history.
