Nils Wörmer

Director Regional Programme Security Dialogue for East Africa at the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS)

Nils Wörmer is the Director of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s Regional Programme Security Dialogue for East Africa, which was established in August 2022. From September 2018 until May 2022 he headed the Department International and Security Affairs at the Analysis and Consulting Division of Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Berlin.

 

He was previously in charge of the Foundations’s Syria and Iraq office, which was established under his management in 2015. From 2013 to 2015, Nils Wörmer led the Afghanistan program of KAS in Kabul. He arrived to the Middle East with extensive knowledge from his time as a Senior Associate in the Middle East and North Africa Division of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP).

 

From 2005 to 2010, Nils Wörmer held leadership positions at platoon and company levels in the German Federal Armed Forces, through which he was deployed to the ISAF headquarters in Kabul and PRT Kunduz as a human intelligence officer for 15 months.

 

Nils Wörmer obtained his degree in Political Science and Islamic Studies in 2005 after studying at the Helmut Schmidt University of the German Federal Armed Forces and the University of Hamburg. Prior to this, he was trained as an army infantry officer in the airborne infantry of the Bundeswehr. Nils Wörmer is a lieutenant colonel in the reserve army of the German Federal Armed Forces.
