Youth to EU: Career Consulting

The working world is constantly changing – and fast. There are now jobs that didn't exist five or ten years ago. For this reason, career guidance is essential to support and motivate young people in making decisions concerning their future career.

In cooperation with the Center for Development and European Integration (CEDI), the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation organized a series of workshops on the subject “Youth to EU: Career Consulting” in various cities in the country, in which many pupils from various high schools took part. Pupils were guided on how to choose the right career path, including some of the fields with the best opportunities in the working world, as well as what steps one should keep in mind when applying for a degree or for a job. The pupils spoke out on what they consider important while choosing a career path and were counseled on what careers could best suit them and how they can make the most out of it. Furthermore, they were guided on how to write a curriculum vitae and a motivational letter depending on what they are applying for. The pupils also had the opportunity to test their knowledge. They were divided into groups of 4 and wrote a résumé that they shared with partners in the group to evaluate each other.
Another topic was what to expect from a job interview and how best to prepare for it. The pupils were made aware of the structure and process of an interview. After that, they also simulated an interview where some students asked questions that would normally appear in an interview and some students answered them. At the end, they received feedback from the lecturers and suggestions on how to improve. The students said they were very satisfied with the training and rated the presentations and exercises as very helpful.

In this context, the brochure created for this purpose was also presented, which is intended to raise the pupils' awareness towards the most suitable decisions for their future career.
