Climate Risks and Opportunities in Latin American Cities

Despite being a global problem, climate risks have a different impact on each region, especially placing the population and the Latin American economy in danger due to their particular nature. In the socioeconomic context, climate change exacerbates the disparity in access to food and drinking water, and impacts, in particular, agriculture in productive locations, currently the main economic activity in the region.

In 2020, 293 municipalities that participated in the CDP-ICLEI Unified Reporting Platform reported their dangers and opportunities related to climate change. These municipalities correspond to approximately 147.5 million inhabitants, representing 23% of the population of Latin America and the Caribbean.
