Germany maintains a large number of energy cooperation projects at various bilateral and multilateral levels around the world. The energy cooperation agreements have, however, given a new dimension to energy decisions. The G20 plays a special political role in this process. It unites the most important industrial and emerging countries worldwide. Latin America is traditionally closely linked to Germany. Germany, for example, maintains close bilateral energy policy cooperation with Mexico and Brazil. Argentina will take over the presidency of the G20 following Germany. In addition, Latin America has become a pioneer in the use of renewable energies and could thus become an important partner for Germany in international energy policy. Against this backdrop, KAS is organizing an expert dialogue that addresses the current national and international challenges of energy policy in the German-Latin American G20 context.
