Similarly to the two last KAS Greece Political Academies in Loutraki and Serres, 30 young and highly motivated members from youth-organizations, candidates for regional and national elections and members of state and non-state organizations participated in the events in Crete.
Many active politicians and experts participated as speakers and trainers. Dora Bakoyiannis, Member of the Parliament, former Mnister and Mayor of Athens, started with an speech to stress the importance of the participation of young people in politics . Sofia Zacharaki, Deputy Speaker of the ND, explained the theoretical and practical background of political campaigning.
Furthermore Giannis Plakiotakis,former ND president and Member of the Parliament, analyzed the immigration challenges for Greece and the EU. Lefteris Avgenakis, Secretary of the political committee of ND, explained the need for reforms in the public administration. Professor Nikos Papadakis, of the University of Crete, and Matthias Schäffer Head of the Team on Economic Policy of KAS in Berlin discussed with the participants the political and social-economical principals of the centre-right and analyzed the impact of Brexit for the EU. Giannis Kefalogiannis, Parliamentary Speaker of the ND and Member of the Parliament discussed with the participants his experiences as a young politician.
Finally, the participants also visited the historical residence of Eleftherios Venizelos, former Prime Minister and most important leading figure of the country, in Chalepa. There they discussed with Nikos Papadakis, Director of the Research Institute Eleftherios Venizelos.
