On the 13th of December 2021, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Kosovo organized a round table discussion as part of the by now annual "KAS Book Club". These series of discussions are organized for our current scholarship holders, who have the opportunity to debate on different topics and issues during which they not only enhance their critical thinking but also create a closer bond as KAS scholars through regular meetings and close discussions among the group.
The participants were greeted by the director of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Kosovo Mr. Daniel Braun who emphasised how important it is for young high-achieving students such as the KAS scholars to also be socially or politically active, especially in a country like Kosovo, where young people represent the majority of the population.
Guest speaker at the event was Mr. Alban Zogaj, Deputy Mayor of Prishtina and Member of the Presidency of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK). Mr. Zogaj gave his perspective on the topics of democratic participation, the importance of free media and the threat from fake news. The youngsters shared their opinion on the topics at hand while relating topics of democracy, free speech and participation to the plot, themes and great symbolism of „Animal Farm“ by George Orwell, which was the book that they read as part of the “KAS Book Club”.
