Roundtable on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

Policy and Institutional Reforms to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Cognisant of the fact that the current Malaysian government is committed towards policy and institutional reforms, the roundtable aims to contribute to this by providing recommendations that address issues of governance and institutional capacity as well as the ability of long term policy planning in a wider and holistic context and linked to sustainable development.

The institutional reforms to address the key principles of the 2030 Agenda such as leaving no one behind, achieving policy coherence (integrated agenda) and partnership models will be a major success factor in achieving the SDGs. This requires addressing challenging issues including federal-state relations, enhancing public participation in decision-making processes and reforming institutions related to underlying issues of governance such as on effectiveness, transparency, accountability and anti-corruption.
