“Dropped” Bombs

Asset Publisher

A “Broken Arrow” is defined as an unexpected event involving nuclear weapons that results in the accidental launching, firing, detonating, theft or loss of the weapon.

Two hydrogen bombs fell to the ground in Goldsboro, North Carolina, as the bomber carrying it lost a wing. One broke on impact due to a malfunction of its parachute, the other one landed intact. Only one out of six safety devices performed its job, averting a nuclear explosion by the slightest margin.
