The USSR conducted a test of the ‘Tsar Bomba’ over the Dry Nose nuclear test site on the remote Novaya Zemlya archipelago at an altitude of about four kilometers (2.5 miles) The yield of the thermonuclear explosion was more than 50 megaton, while the mushroom cloud rose to a height of 67 kilometers.
