Details

The training was conducted by IMPACT (Impact for Change and Development) in collaboration with KAS.

In their lines of duty, which are similar to the police, the NSCDC officers have to display a high sense of sensitivity to issues, settle and manage conflicts on daily bases. As part of the training, the capacity of the officers was built to protect the most vulnerable citizens during conflicts, i.e. women and children. This training also served to promote inter-agency cooperation and collaboration especially in times of conflicts.

Topics like understanding the concept of conflicts and peace, essence of good communication in avoiding and managing conflicts, gender issues, negotiation, mediation, conflict monitoring and early warning were key in the whole training.

Dr. Naomi Akpan-Ita, the Executive Director of IMPACT was the leading trainer, while Mr. Valentine Kwajinmi and Mr. William Itorok (JDPC-Calabar) were co-trainers. The attendance of high ranking officers showed the importance attached to this training by the NSCDC.
