Seminar
Details
The North-Central zone has witnessed ferocious conflicts including armed banditry, farmers’/herders’ clashes, kidnapping and violent extremism. These conflicts have displaced many residents in the three most affected states of Benue, Nasarawa, and Plateau leading to an overflow in the camps for internally displaced persons (IDP). Unarguably, the limited number of personnel of security agencies and their inability to forge formidable strategies for cooperation among themselves and with civilian citizens has led to an escalation of these conflicts. Similarly, the prevalent suspicion, mistrust, and parochial interests displayed by stakeholders have hindered success in tackling insecurity. KAS’ intervention is aimed at expanding platforms to improve understanding and collaboration among personnel of the various security agencies on the one hand, and the cooperation between security agencies and civilian citizens on the other by fostering productive partnership that is needed in the fight against insecurity in the zone. The seminar which is a follow up to series of seminars organized in 2019, also aims at promoting and embedding the culture of coordination and cooperation rather than competition and unhealthy rivalry among security agencies and members of civil society. The seminar is part of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s support to the Security Sector Reform in Nigeria. This program is funded by the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.
