The Nordic countries greatly value cooperation and solidarity. Although each country may have different views on issues such as questions of EU-membership, migration, or defense policy, the Nordic countries still have much in common. All of the Nordic countries have proven to be valuable partners not only for Germany, but likewise for each other on towards building treasured relations and strengthening cooperation and solidarity.
The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung office in Stockholm supports and emphasizes the political dialogue between the Nordic member parties of the European People’s Party (EPP), and equivalent national parties. Furthermore, the foundation campaigns for constructive exchanges between different partner organizations in the Nordic area. Target countries of the foundation's Nordic regional project are Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
The main goals of our commitment in the Nordic countries are to deepen European cooperation and to expand bilateral, as well as international relations. Besides focusing on the foreign and security policy in the region, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung goes further to address current challenges such as climate change and energy supply, just to name a few. The foundation also strives to address current socio-economic challenges which pose a challenge in the Nordic countries, as well as to Germany. Connected to the above mentioned topics, the foundation focuses on the following questions: Which position do the Nordic countries have regarding foreign and security policy? What goals do they want to achieve? What are their approaches towards renewable energy production? What are the strengths of the Nordic welfare systems, in what ways have the welfare systems changed over the past years, and how do the Nordic welfare states cope with current socio-economic shifts?
By means of its commitment in the Noridic countries regional project, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung wants to foster greater cohesion in the North Sea and Baltic Sea regions. This includes creating an active network with the Nordic members of the EPP, cooperation and exchange with regional organizations, as well as cooperation with think tanks focusing on security policy, the development and maintenance of liberal models of society, and the strengthening of the European dialogue.
