The attendees at the press conference were addressed by the official representative of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Daniel Braun, the Dean of the Faculty of Law "Iustinianus Primus", Sasho Georgievski and the Mayor of the Municipality of Aerodrom, Timcho Mucunski.
Within this project, professors from the Faculty of Law will prepare a study and a handbook, and will implement educational activities that will further upgrade the transparency, accountability and good governance in the Municipality of Aerodrom.
"I believe that the ‘Zero Corruption’ project has a very significant background for the local self-government, which is very important for the citizens. Regardless of whether it is about the waste or energy related matters, I first address the mayor, I address the local government. Before moving on to the next level, to the ministers, I will try to address the issue at the local level first. That is the starting point. It is extremely important how public funds will be used" said Daniel Braun, the official representative of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
He welcomed Mayor Mucunski’s commitment to make the Municipality of Aerodrom an example of how any institution at the local and central level should be run and managed. At the same time, Braun emphasized that the Foundation remains a committed partner in the implementation of the entire process and in taking concrete steps with which the Municipality of Aerodrom will fight against corruption.
"Providing a municipality with zero corruption was my personal commitment in the campaign of the last local elections, and it is a key precondition for a functional and efficient municipality. The rules, according to which the officials in the municipality, the employees and the administration in the municipality function and work, must be directed in that way to ensure an efficient system of good management and good governance", said Mayor Timco Mucunski in his introductory address.
He added that the system of good governance in the 21st century envisions appropriate tools related to digitalization, aimed at improving the services provided to citizens.
"Basically, the project is about examining the ways in which the concept of integrity of the municipalities will be implemented, a concept that is otherwise internationally recognized by many international organizations, and which basically touches the relations, i.e., it builds the integrity of the organization to which it refers to, the relations between the employees, the relations between the employees and the managers, and all of them in relation to the users of the services, i.e. to us, the citizens. In its roots, the project presupposes the identification and detection of anti-corruption measures at the local level", explained the Dean of the Faculty of Law "Iustinianus Primus", Sasho Georgievski.
The full implementation of this project will guarantee that the citizens' money will end up in the right place, and in this way the work of the Municipality will be more transparent for the citizens.
The participants shared their common conviction that the European standards for consistent implementation of the rule of law that will be established in the Municipality of Aerodrom will be a motive for their proper implementation in the other municipalities in the country.
