Lecture
Details
Dr. Florian Kühn (Interim Professor for Comparative Politics, Otto von Guericke University, Magdeburg, Germany) gives an overview on models of state formations and provides insights into the political economy of how organized authority derives legitimacy from their constituents. Drawing from historical and current examples, he illustrates that focusing on political ideals, on the one hand, or on services on the other is not sufficient to understand how states manage to gain support and acceptance. In order to find ways of reforming polities, questions as taxation, the influence of external donors and their repercussions on legitimacy, need being taken into account.
Mr. Omar Sha‘ban (Director, PalThink for Strategic Studies, Gaza, Palestine) will then comment on the lecture to open the discussion for the audience.
