The electricity sector is vital for modern society. Policy makers, regulators and the industry need to ensure that electricity remains affordable and secure while also meeting national and international environmental protection targets.

In his presentation Antony Froggatt will look at four main issues:

 

 

 

 

 

• What are the key factors affecting the electricity system, such as the accelerating rate of renewable deployment and greater energy efficiency?
• How have these developments affected incumbent electricity companies?
• What technologies are currently developed and deployed, such as management of data, electric vehicles and new battery technologies?
• How will these developments affect future business models of electricity companies and what new actors are entering the market?

Antony Froggatt is a senior research fellow in the Energy, Environment and Resources department at Chatham House/London. He studied energy and environmental policy at the University of Westminster and the Science Policy Research Unit at Sussex University, and is currently an honorary research fellow at Exeter University. He joined Chatham House in 2007 and specializes in global energy security and European electricity policy. He has worked as an independent consultant for 15 years with environmental groups, academics and public bodies in Europe and Asia. He has also worked as a freelance journalist. In 1992 he co-authored the World Nuclear Industry Status Report, a now annual independent review of the nuclear sector.
