Kenyan Section of the International Commission of Jurists, Nairobi - Kenya

The Kenyan Section of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ Kenya) was established in 1959 and is a non-governmental and non-profit organisation, which is registered in Kenya and whose members are primarily from the legal professions and the judiciary. It is a regional office of the International Commission of Jurists, which is headquartered in Geneva. ICJ Kenya's activities focus on promoting and protecting the rule of law, democracy and human rights in Kenya and in the region of East Africa. The Rule of Law Programme has already issued a large number of the very popular publications in cooperation with the ICJ and organises an annual regional conference for jurists.

Its collaborative work with the KAS covers a range of topics, such as the activities and significance of the International Criminal Court and the SADC Tribunal.

The Network of African National Human Rights Institutions (NANHRI) is a regional umbrella body that brings together 44 African National Human Rights Institutions. NANHRI, whose Secretariat is based in Nairobi, Kenya, is currently registered under Kenyan law as an independent legal entity and has been operational since 2007. The Network seeks to support and strengthen National Human Rights Institutions in Africa as well as to facilitate coordination and cooperation among themselves and between them and other key human rights actors at the regional and international level. National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) generally refer to bodies established by governments to aid in promotion and protection of human rights within their respective jurisdictions through handling complaints and conducting investigations, conducting research, advocacy and educational programmes in line with the Paris Principles.

Intergovernmental Authority on Development
The Intergovernmental Authority on Development was established in 1986. It succeeded the earlier Intergovernmental Authority on Drought and Development (IGADD), a multinational body founded in 1986 by Djibouti, Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda and Kenya, with a focus on development and environmental control. IGADD's headquarters were later moved to Djibouti, following an agreement signed in January 1986 by the member states. Eritrea joined the organization in 1993, upon achieving independence. The IGAD mission is to assist and complement the efforts of the Member States to achieve, through increased cooperation:*Food Security and environmental protection*Promotion and maintenance of peace and security and humanitarian affairs, and,*Economic cooperation and integration.

The Greater Horn Horizon Forum

In November 2007, a group of scholars from the Greater Horn region (Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan and Uganda) and from the diaspora with support from UNESCO established the Greater Horn Horizon Forum (GHHF). The Forum has come at a time when the people of the region are confronted with some decisive and urgent challenges such as conflicts, poverty and identity problems. The Forum intends to interact with the communities of the region, soliciting their ideas and vision with the aim of forging common approaches in tackling their shared challenges and in charting a mutually beneficial future.
