Details
During this event, the ULS will lead the assessment of the state of affairs relating to the Rule of Law in Uganda since independence 50 years ago. The era through the various regimes will be analysed right from the ousting of Kabaka Mutesa by the then Prime Minister Apollo Milton Obote, to the 1970s Idi Amin rule that was characterized by a glaring disregard for the Rule of Law, to the turbulent 1980s which ushered in the NRM regime; which as part of its ten point programme pledged progress based on the defence of democracy and human rights vis a vis regional and international best practices. This is aimed at instilling and strengthening the spirit of nationalism and citizenship among Ugandans as the country celebrates 50 years of her independence.
