Responsibilities:

As an intern, an exciting field of work awaits you. You will support project work in various countries in the region and deal in particular with the security challenges in the Horn of Africa, Sudan and South Sudan as well as in the Great Lakes region and Mozambique. In doing so, you will support policy makers, civil society actors and the academic field. In addition, there is the possibility – security situation permitting – to participate in a mission to one of the countries to assist in the preparation and follow-up of events.

Requirements:

Students majoring in Political Science, International Relations, Security Affairs or related fields of study are preferred.

Students should be at an advanced stage of their Bachelor's degree and be familiar with the basics of scientific work.

A good command of English is required; knowledge of regional languages is not a prerequisite but not a disadvantage.

Interns should have a strong interest in living in a foreign country and working in a multicultural environment.

Due to the work in a small team, interns should bring a high degree of team orientation and commitment, which includes, for example, participation in possible evening and weekend events of the KAS and its partner organisations.

Benefits:

All costs during your stay in Kampala, including accommodation, food, daily transport to the office and home, as well as travel to Uganda and the return journey and also visa costs are to be borne by you.

You will receive an internship allowance of 500 Euros per full month (or proportionally for each month that has elapsed). This allowance can be paid in US dollars or Ugandan shillings and used for everyday expenses during the stay.

Interns receive a comprehensive internship guide that includes information on finding accommodation and visas to prepare for travel and planning. It also provides valuable insights into security and geopolitical issues in East Africa that also have relevance for Europe. An internship certificate is handed out at the end of the internship.

Please submit your application documents by e-mail. The application should include the following documents and information:
