Currently, Vietnam’s approach to investment disputes emphasizes adherence to international law and standards, providing reassurance to foreign investors about the protection of their investments. The purpose of this training initiative is to foster a thorough grasp and proficiency in the domain of foreign investment legislation, to uphold Vietnam’s pledges regarding international investments, and to encourage active involvement in the settlement of international investment disputes.
German lawyer Mr Leif Schneider, Vice Chair of the Legal Sector Committee of EuroCham Vietnam, together with experts from the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Planning and Investment, delivered presentations on a range of topics. These included international obligations, foreign investment legislation, and strategies for preventing and resolving international investment disputes, as well as exchanging global insights. The event got active participation from over 100 officials and civil servants from various departments and sectors across the Southern provinces and cities; they engaged in dynamic discussions and exchanged practical experiences to aid in overcoming challenges and impediments encountered in their professional duties.
In the course of the training, Justice Vice Minister Nguyen Khanh Ngoc and Florian Constantin Feyerabend, the Resident Representative of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Vietnam, emphasized the critical importance of having extensive understanding and proficiency in managing and resolving disputes related to international investments. They underscored the need for the standardization of legal procedures and the improvement of legal officers’ qualifications across various levels, which are key elements that will help Vietnam address and overcome its current difficulties and challenges.
