Organized with the financial support of our regional PDWA program, nearly a hundred participants gathered over two days. This event highlighted the importance of international cooperation and joint responses to contemporary challenges in Africa, particularly in the context of increasing security threats and human rights violations.
The discussions addressed key recommendations to strengthen the fight against terrorism and promote democratic governance, including the importance of the rule of law, decentralization of powers, transparency of institutions, and enhanced cooperation between the neighboring countries of Benin. Participants stressed the urgent need to establish mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating security policies, fostering a stable economic environment, and giving special attention to education, youth, and interreligious dialogue. The integration of civil society, community leaders, and national actors was emphasized as critical in creating a resilient environment against terrorism.
This call for international and national solidarity reminds us that only collective effort, shared commitment, and shared responsibility will enable us to tackle security challenges and ensure a stable, prosperous, and harmonious future for Benin and all of Africa. We hope that these recommendations (attached in the annex) will serve all actors.
