The event was opened by Mr Florian Karner, Director of PDWA, Mr Samba Koné, President of the National Press Authority (ANP) and Mr Jean-Claude Coulibaly, President of the National Union of Journalists of Côte d'Ivoire (UNJCI). After welcoming the participants, Mr Karner stressed in his opening speech the need to improve the quality of journalistic work so that journalists can better fulfil their key role in a democracy. Against this background, the seminar was intended to give participants the opportunity to develop their skills even further in order to improve the integrity and credibility of the journalistic profession as a whole.

In interactive workshops the participants were given the necessary basics for high-quality journalism through practical exercises. In particular, the experts explained which rules and practices are important to maintain authenticity as a journalist.

The workshop ended with the presentation of certificates of participation by Mr. Karner who encouraged everyone to use the knowledge they had acquired in practice and to lay the foundation for a new generation of journalists who distinguish themselves by high-quality reporting.
