We are pleased to invite you to an expert discussion "Safeguarding Democracy: Insights from the 2024 European Elections in Combating Foreign Interference and Disinformation".
This event will take place on November 27, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. in Quebec Suite at Fairmont Château Laurier, in Ottawa.
Foreign interference in decision-making presents an increasing threat to democracies worldwide, including in Canada and the EU. This influence takes many forms, from disinformation campaigns and cyber-attacks targeting election infrastructure to financial support for political entities. Tackling these threats is essential to safeguarding democratic integrity on a global scale.
With the insights gained from the June 2024 European elections and in anticipation of Canada’s 2025 federal elections, the Delegation of the European Union to Canada and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Canada are organizing this event to bring attention to the risks of foreign interference and reinforce the defense of democratic processes. The discussion, moderated by Professor Stephanie Carvin will explore lessons learned and offer recommendations tailored to Canada. It will be informed by a report authored by Aengus Bridgman, Ferdinand Gehringer, Alexander Romanishyn and Taylor Owen.
The report will be available to all registered participants prior to the event.
