Détails

A book that reviews DRC's media laws has been launched roughly in time to coincide with celebrations following that country's first successful presidential and legislative elections in four decades.

The booklet, Revue du Droit des Media: Republique Democratique du Congo was inaugurated at a gala function in Kinshasa. The event was attended by the German ambassador to DRC, the newly appointed Minister of Information and the interim president of the new DRC national assembly.

At the launch, the book's co-author and Senior Fellow in Communication Law at the Mandela Institute, Justine White said the post-election challenges of DRC media included growing professional journalism; encouraging public knowledge of the right to information and freedom of expression; ending starvation wages and bribes to journalists and countering the abuse and torture of reporters.

Revue du Droit des Media is the only freely available and updated reference for journalists, media managers, politicians and scholars that considers the impact of DRC's new constitution (passed in April) on existing press laws.

The book is published in French and is also available online.
