Détails

The KAS Media Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa supports this years Sustainable Journalism Partnership, led by the Aga Khan University and Nation Media Group, which will be hosted in Arusha, Tanzania from 22 to 24 October. This partnership is spearheading an initiative to incorporate sustainability principles into journalism education across East Africa. This project brings together nine universities from Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, as well as leading media outlets to develop courses, modules, and units that will prepare students for the evolving media landscape.

Sustainable journalism addresses two concurrent global crises: society's sustainability challenges and the sustainability crisis within journalism itself. By fostering independent, economically viable journalism that promotes democracy and enables a sustainable society, this project aims to transform both journalism education and practice. The initiative includes workshops, curriculum development, and practical experiences for students, creating a robust network of collaboration between academia and the media industry in East Africa.
