Detalji

The IPEF has emerged as a unique rules-based framework at a time when the global rules-based order is facing unprecedented challenges. Discarding settled norms of multilateral engagement are generating vulnerabilities, paving the way for greater economic insecurities. In response to these challenges, the expert roundtable examined key topics and critical questions, including:

Economic Security and IPEF Rules
There are hopes of the IPEF’s collective rules for making supply chains resilient and enhancing sustainable trade will enhance food, energy, health and resource security. Will the IPEF rules be able to meet the expectations? Will they also provide a working template for future rules-based frameworks emphasizing economic security?

Disruptions in Global Rules and Impact on Regional Economic Security
As the disruptive policies of the Trump Administration compound impacts from existing threats of resource scarcity, environmental stress, and shrinking livelihoods, the Indo-Pacific will confront testing trials. What are the new threats to economic security that the region should brace for? Can IPEF rules address these threats?

Economic Security, Indo-Pacific and IPEF Rules: Emerging Understandings
Economic security is being variously interpreted and applied by countries in their external engagement. How are external actors like the EU and Taiwan looking to engage with the Indo-Pacific on economic security? How might India, a key entity from the BRICS and Global South, approach IPEF in the future?

Expertly moderated by Iqbal Singh Sevea (Director, Institute of South Asian Studies, National University of Singapore), Amitendu Palit (Senior Research Fellow & Research Lead, Trade & Economics, ISAS-NUS, Singapore), and Cristita Perez (Senior Programme Manager, Regional Economic Programme Asia (SOPAS), Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Japan), the event brought together leading academics and thought leaders for an interactive discussion.
