Online panel „EU Foreign Policy in times of COVID-19” which is part of an international conference co-organized with the European Union Application and Research Center at Beykent University (BUAB) in Turkey / Istanbul “The European Union’s Foreign Policy: Trends and Perspectives” within  Conference on the Future of Europe.

The current crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has brought new geopolitical dynamics and has shown the need for a stronger, united and assertive EU foreign and security policy. These changes in the geopolitical environment pose substantial challenges for the EU’s external policies and its position in the world. The EU has a responsibility to act as a global player and adjust its foreign policy in line with the fight against COVID-19.

The aim of the panel is to investigate how modern changes, health, economic and political challenges in contemporary international relations, especially COVID-19 pandemic and its socio-economic effects affect the European Union as a regional organization and functioning its foreign policy. Panel’s speeches will focus on broadly understood political issues, including, challenges in the field of external relations and security, as well as economic and environmental issues and their impact on individual areas of EU functioning, as well as the EU’s impact on shaping changes in these areas. 

Panel will directly address key questions for European foreign policy during COVID-19 pandemic: What does it mean to develop European strategic autonomy? What is the future the EU’s foreign policy priorities? How should the EU act in the face of ‘new empires’ that threaten to destabilize its neighbourhood? What’s the state of the EU strategic autonomy? What is the influence of the European Green Deal on the socio-economic system of the EU and its relations with third countries? And how the EU can strengthen and implement their basic priorities, such as the European Green Deal, the EU Strategic Autonomy, the Strategic Compass and partnerships with other entities?
