Bangkok Tribune Online News Agency, in support of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung e.V. Foundation Office Thailand (KAS Thailand), has crafted the photo essay series, The Mekong’s Womb, and published it on https://bkktribune.com/photo-essay/the-mekongs-womb to disseminate information and photographs about the significance of the Mekong tributaries including the Songkhram River Basin - also known as "Mekong's Womb". Its fertile Bung-Tham forests act as nursery grounds for aquatic animals from the Mekong River.
We want to raise public awareness about the importance of the Mekong tributaries, which are often overlooked by policy makers despite being vital for Mekong's ecosystems and livelihoods. This is in line with the news agency’s core principle and mission of acting as a platform to help “bridge the gap and connect the dots” for critical issues relating development and environmental policies in the region in a hope that this can help boost better understanding and decision-making among the Mekong citizens.
Aside from the photo essay series published on the website, the news agency wishes to disseminate the information to the wider audience in a form of visual arts. So, it plans to organize the photo essay exhibition as well as publishing a book of the same name, ลุ่มน้ำสงคราม (the Songkhram River Basin) l The Mekong’s Womb.
The event will be held at Curved Wall (5th floor) Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) during March 15-27, 2022. It will also be accompanied by the duo forums; ลุ่มน้ำสงคราม (The Songkhram River Basin), the Mekong’s Womb scheduled at the same venue on March 18 from 1-3.30 pm and at Ubon Ratchathani University in due course.
