Nach der letzten EU-Erweiterung am 1. Mai 2004 wurden in die europäische Familie die unmittelbaren Nachbarn der Ukraine – Polen, Slowakei und Ungarn –
und vier weitere Länder des ehemaligen sozialistischen Lagers – Tschechien und die baltische Staaten – aufgenommen, zu denen die Ukraine seit längerer Zeit gute Beziehungen unterhält. Gemeinsamkeiten in der Geschichte und der Mentalität und gute wirtschaftliche und menschliche Beziehungen mit diesen Ländern lassen die Ukrainer hoffen, gerade mit diesen neuen EU-Mitgliedsstaaten bedeutende Fürsprecher in Brüssel gefunden zu haben, wenn es um eine stärkere Integration der Ukraine in europäische Strukturen geht.
Vor diesem Hintergrund organisiert die Außenstelle Kiew in Zusammenarbeit mit dem ukrainischen Institut für europäische Integration (Leiter Borys Tarasjuk MP, Vorsitzender des Parlamentsausschusses für europäische Integration) und dem angesehenen polnischen Zentrum für internationale Beziehungen eine Konferenz „Europäische Perspektiven der Ukraine: Erfahrungen der Länder der ‚Visegrád 4’ und des Baltikums“, die in Kiew unter Mitwirkung von Vertretern aus der Exekutive und Legislative der Ukraine und den neuen Mitgliedsstaaten stattfindet.
