On March 1, the annual gathering at the beginning of the new academic year took place, to introduce our new KAS-SAIIA scholars to the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation.

Michaela Braun and Henning Suhr greeted the new Scholars (Thulani Maphasa, Emma Fuller and Deon Cloete) and provided background information about the activities of German political foundations in general, KAS in particular and outlined the scholarship programme for the year 2019. The KAS Media Programme Sub-Sahara Africa, also based at KAS office in Johannesburg was introduced to the new scholars.

Introduction of KAS and SAIIA to the new scholars

Henning Suhr (Head of the KAS office in South Africa) emphasized the importance of the Scholarship Program as a contribution of both KAS and SAIIA to highly qualified young researchers in South Africa. Events like these offer the possibility for closer relationships with both the scholars and each other. For the first time also representatives of SAIIA Cape Town joined the event to provide a close and more personal contact.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the KAS-SAIIA scholarship in 2019
Furthermore, Elizabeth Sidiropoulos and Neuma Grobbelaar gave insight into the Relationship between KAS and SAIIA and background on the KAS/SAIIA scholarship programme, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2019.
