Challenges and opportunities of solar roof promotion in the context of Vietnam's energy transformation

Vietnam is one of the five countries most affected by climate change worldwide. At the same time, the energy demands of the high-consuming middle class are growing day by day. Vietnam wants to be climate-neutral by 2050. For that its industry needs to become greener, for which large-scale solar parks have been built to satisfy the new hunger for energy. But the solar boom appears to have exhausted itself. Now the focus is on non-commercial solutions: small systems on the roofs of households and offices. What opportunities does solar roof funding offer, and can we expect new impulses from it?

ASEAN FUTURE FORUM 2024

The ASEAN FURTURE FORUM - Toward fast and sustainable growth of a people-centered ASEAN Community has been successfully hosted by Vietnam. The forum discussed deliberations on the future of ASEAN in both practical and visionary ways in the context of fast, complex developments in the strategic landscapes of the region and the world. Since the beginning of the “China+1” policy, Vietnam has played a key role in the ASEAN region. Vietnam, which has enjoyed unparalleled economic growth of an average of 6-8% for three decades, is particularly interesting for foreign direct investment. German companies want to invest in the with the objective of diversification. Since January 2023 at the latest, with the introduction of the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG) and now the most recent EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), it is no longer just the economic attractiveness of a country that matters. Rather, binding commitments to compliance with human rights, social standards and environmental protection play a central role for companies. Can the Vietnamese economy meet these requirements?

"Facilitating Vietnam's integration into Global Value Chain through Enhanced FDI Linkages"

On December 5, 2023, the Vietnam Institute for Economic and Policy Research - VEPR finally released the study "Facilitating Vietnam's integration into Global Value Chain through Enhanced FDI Linkages", which was sponsored by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Vietnam. Over 100 participants including researchers, representatives of international organizations, business associations, enterprises and local media attended this dissemination workshop. The event served as a platform for a joint exchange and questions from experts and interested parties. The study deals with the connection between Vietnamese and foreign companies and the question of how the participation of Vietnamese companies in production and value chains could be further strengthened.

Research - Labour shifting by 2030 in Vietnam to drive industrialisation and modernisation

The improvement of human resources is currently considered one of the breakthrough stages to ensure economic growth and achieve the goals of industrialization and modernization of the economy. The labor transition process in Vietnam has been relatively slow and is facing many bottlenecks such as training quality, skills, age factors, post- transition livelihoods... Labor transition also poses significant challenges from external factors such as technological development, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, international integration that changes production patterns and labor demands. In that context, a 3-phase-research on “the EU Approach to Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific: from Strategy to Practice” has been conducted by USSH Hanoi with sponsorship from KAS Vietnam. Its aim is to learn about the European Union’s approach to cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region and impacts on regional countries.
