Details

Can Christian democracy be justified without reference to specific Christian values? And what consequences does the answer to this question have for the amount of support Christian Democratic parties can achieve in secular societies? Should Christian democracy be defined by its Christian inspiration, or by central principles such as the idea of human dignity, solidarity and subsidiarity?

To begin the discussion, an introduction in English will be held by Dr. Gregor Ryssel, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Party Analysis, before a Norwegian-language panel discussion featuring

Henrik Syse - philosopher and editor of the anthology Konservatisme (2011),

Ida Lindtveit Røse - former leader of the Norwegian Christian Democratic Youth KrFU (2015-2017) and group leader of KrF at the county council in Viken,

and

Tore Storehaug - former parliamentary representative for KrF (2017-2021) and member of the principle program committee in KrF.

Eilev Hegstad, project manager at Civita, will moderate the discussion.

This event is a collaboration between the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Nordic Countries Project and the Norwegian think tank Civita.

The meeting will take place without a physical audience and will be broadcast on the Civita website, on Civita’s Facebook page and on Civita’s YouTube channel.
